Utilizing Positive Managerial Skills In Your Career

By Jason Larrsohn

When a business is looking for someone to manage their property they are really investing a lot in that individual. They need someone to interact effectively with tenants while effectively maintaining the integrity of the property.

Although you will have learned about management throughout your business education, you should be prepared to do some more research. Doing your research ahead of time and getting to know your position well can help you succeed from the first day of work.

You should be sure that you have a running check list and calendar throughout the time that you are planning. Remembering all of the details involved with planning can be near impossible if you are not writing down what you need to remember and what you need to accomplish.

As you are making your assignments and setting these expectations, you should be a good example of the principle behind any assignment or expectation that you set. You do not want to set expectations that you are not also willing to keep.

Having to come up with cost efficient ways to maintain and manage a property is essential as a property manager. It is your job to work within the budget restraints of the owner while dealing with the complaints of tenants. This can often be done through resourcefulness and using the available resources. The fourth quality is creativity.

Keeping lines of communication open throughout the time that you are planning this event will also be important. You want to be able to contact those that are involved and you should make yourself available for being contacted by those that need you.

This job is not for the faint of heart. It requires toughness and steadiness at times when tenants can be very belligerent and determined. Sometimes, in this business the customer is not always right. A property owner expects you to be his advocate and ally when times get tough.

Should you find that you enjoy event planning or if you have always had a knack for event planning, you may want to do some research about an event planning program in your area. Finding an event planning program near you may give you the ability to excel at something that you enjoy and want to be involved with.

The best way to ensure that everyone on your team is happy is to genuinely take time to get to know them. As you get to know them you will be able to help them get what they need to get from the job that they are working for you.

Having an event planning degree on your resume is a great way to help clients feel more comfortable with your abilities. Although you have your degree on your resume, you should also keep a portfolio of all of the events that you have planned.

Take time to develop your managerial skills and do not be afraid to take criticism from your superiors and use it to make improvements in your managing style. This way, you can be continually improving your managerial skills and hopefully improving the functionality of your team.
