Why You Should Sign Up For A Spanish Immersion Program Cambridge

There are many reasons for wanting to learn a new language. Maybe it is a requirement for school, maybe work takes you to a country where English is not the first language, or maybe you just want to go on vacation to a Spanish-speaking country and feel you would get more out of it if you spoke the local lingo. One of the best ways to gain command of a new language quickly is by enrolling in a Spanish immersion program Cambridge MA.

Cambridge MA is a city in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. The town was named after Cambridge University in the United Kingdom, which had a heavy theological influence over the city's founders. North of Boston, just over 15 minutes' drive, it is home to two of the world's most prestigious universities, MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Harvard. Radcliffe, a foremost women's college, is also located here.

The city's founders placed it upriver from Boston Harbor specifically because it would make it easier to defend from the British. As well as Boston, Cambridge is close to the municipalities of Watertown, Somerville, Belmont, and Arlington. As of the census in 2010, Hispanic or Latino people made up more than seven percent of the population.

The Hispanic component of the local population come from diverse places on the globe, specifically Europe and the Central and South Americas. Puerto Rico and Cuba are both island nations in the Caribbean Sea south of the United States. The Dominican Republic, formerly Santo Domingo, is also of Spanish origin, although it is now a Francophone country sharing the island of Hispaniola with the poorer nation of Haiti.

The Kingdom of Spain shares the Iberian Peninsula with Portugal in southwest Europe. Considering its widespread diaspora, Spain clearly sponsored some of the world's most famous explorers, much of which took place in the 15th century. In terms of acreage, Spain is Europe's second-largest country. Population-wise, it is the fifth. The country is renown for sangria, salsa, and sunshine. Every year, British tourists flock to the Spanish coast.

The United Mexican States are located on the Pacific coast of Central America, just south of California and sharing borders with Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Perhaps surprisingly, Mexico boasts one of the world's largest economies. According to the World Bank, Mexico is an upper-middle income country. It is the single largest silver producer in the world and is one of the top ten oil producers.

The Republic of Cuba is an island nation in the Caribbean. Its closest American neighbor is Miami, Florida. Cuba features prominently in the television series, CSI Miami, as well as the former popular program, Miami Vice. Relations between Cuba and the United States have been strained ever since Fidel Castro took over from deposed President Bautista in 1959, although they are showing signs of thawing.

With so much of the world speaking English, at least as a second language, it is sometimes difficult for a native English speaker to decide what to learn as a second language. Spanish is a popular choice.
