Anyone who has done both at the same time, has ran into the problem of balancing and losing at times. There are some good ways to keep up on things so you don't end up losing your mind. Even if you are just taking one class, you need to listen up and pay attention to the tips ahead!
Jack Greystoke was a top notch athlete and scholar as well. He had just come back from working with the Peace Corps for over a year in Africa. While he was in Africa he realized what life was really about. It was about making friends and the man that could get around him great people was always successful.
So he took this mindset to school with him, focusing mostly on friends and the relationships he felt like he needed to build. People knew him from everywhere and he soon became the most popular kid in school. His ability to win friends to his cause really influenced his decisions later on.
Too many people bring school to work. Even the school mindset can be detrimental to your work. Make sure that if you have stresses that you leave them at the door! There is no room for them in the office or workplace. Remember that it is all about the time you put in and if you aren't all there in the time that you are supposed to be "there", then you need to reevaluate things.
Use one of those handy common interests you discovered from step one as a starting point. Geometry, for example, can be learned via basketball. Creative writing can be approached through watching/analyzing a TV show. Economics can be learned through a trip to the grocery store. And remember, ice-cream will be there to calm your frantic spirits.
Now in the midst of this impending storm, Jack knew that he had to make a decision that would influence him forever and make him into the man that he became. He decided that he would run but only with the idea that he was doing it for his classmates and not himself. This was not him, as he had decided, and he knew that it would only be a semester anyway.
When it is all said and done, both school and work are important and you may need to make sacrifices. While sacrifices may be tough, they are even tougher when they aren't necessary. Make sure that you are using everything available to you, especially time.
If you go through school and forget about the people then you will miss out on half the experience. Learn from Jack's experience and start making friends while you are there at Fort Collins College. It will be something you will never regret!
