How to Apply for School

So you're thinking about going back to school, but then you realize you don't know how to go about applying. Maybe it's been a while since you've gone, or maybe you're applying for the first time. It can all seem very complicated, but rest assured, the steps are simple!· Decide on a school
Picking either just one or a few schools is best. This way you can focus on what ones you want instead of trying to submit to everyone. Each school may have a different process, so it's better to concentrate only on schools that really interest you.
· Take the ACT or SAT if applicable
Most four-year colleges require this, or they give a test similar to it. It is used to help determine what core classes you should take. If you've taken it within the past year, your scores will still be applicable. If you are unhappy with your scores, you are allowed to retake it at a later date to improve your score.
· Apply for Financial Aid
Almost everyone needs a little help paying for college. The first part of applying for financial aid should be filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This can be tricky and may require professional help if you don't have your finances in order. Once this is done however, you can send the results to the colleges you wish to apply to, and they can determine a financial aid package that contains loans, grants, and the scholarships the school accepts.
· Apply for scholarships
This is something you can do all on your own. By simply going online and finding an online source for scholarships, you can either build a profile like some require, or simply fill out a small questionnaire about yourself and apply for scholarships! Always apply for both small and big scholarships; those small ones can add up fast. Don't be afraid to apply for the crazy sounding ones, and look for ones that are based on a skill. Sometimes just being a good artist can win you a scholarship.
· Be prepared for Surprises!
Nothing ever really goes according to plan, so prepare for surprises and the unknown. Be able to roll with changes because it's guaranteed to happen. Don't be afraid to ask for help as well! There is no shame in admitting you don't understand something.
Hopefully these tips were helpful. Don't be afraid to explore all your options and even if you think you won't get accepted to a school, if you really want to go there, apply anyway. You never know what can happen!
