The Concept Of Classroom Observations

By Megan Landry

Classroom observations play key roles towards the development of skills of a teacher when it comes to teaching. This is where an observer, who is usually an administrator, comes and sits in the classroom as learning is on going. Just as the name suggests, it is an observation session on how he or she conducts a lesson for students and their reactions.

The report gives a clear feedback to teachers on performance and how best to take their class management program. Where there are short comings, some possible ways to institute and change such are suggested. All in all, it is not a bad idea but one aimed at creating better standards within the educational system of an institution.

It comes in two plans; both official and unofficial. Under these two, the teacher is aware and unaware until the last minute of the intended examination. While the lesson is ongoing, the observer is seriously taking note of all the happenings within the classroom. It can be in form of both writing notes and recording or any of these two. These findings will come in handy in report preparation concerning what was seen.

Both official and unofficial scrutinies are allowed within any given institution. It is for the purpose of actually getting the right picture of what is on going within the classroom. Some teachers tend to be cunning by collaborating with students to exercise high levels of participation and yet that is not the actual reality but just fooling the person in attendance. The unofficial attendance helps to dispel such.

At the end of it all, a teacher comes to understand the need for these two. One cannot live on the falsehood for long. With studies, a teacher has to always give in his or her best as it is the only way of building these students to better careers and performance in future. For this matter, it is of high advantage to the instructor concerned.

At the end f it all, two main significant points are addressed; time and space. With time, it is about creating the right balance in addressing the subject being taught. Here, each component of asking questions and answering them both by the teacher and the students has to be balanced. Through the transcript provided, the instructor will be in a good position to address this in the coming lessons.

The issue of space comes in handy at this stage. This one is on the grounds of active involvement of students depending on their sitting position. Usually those at the front are more active than those at the back. The later are always engaged in activities which are of no educational use such as surfing the web. A finding on this helps to have a single and active class.

The outcomes of reports on classroom observations are for the benefit of all, both the quality of education and the development of the skills of a teacher. This ensures more efforts are put in by the respective parties in provision of what is best.
