What You Should Know About Printing Press Kits

By Eloise Hewitt

The press is a device for printing text and graphics on paper, exerting pressure on the sheet of paper placed on a plate, set of embossed characters or woodcut, pre-inked so that the ink is deposited on paper. Repeated operation provides a large number of identical copies. This is the focus of printing press kits, together with the use of mobile lead characters and specific greasy ink, which is the major invention of Johannes Gutenberg.

The Romans had inscriptions printed on clay objects. Modern print mechanisms were not created until about 1440, with the help of Johannes Gutenberg. In Europe, many people claimed to be part of this development, although reviews suggest that it was German Johannes Gutenberg's ideas that revolutionized the industry. He had a team that supported him as the inventor of typography.

Presumably in the form of a sliding carriage, thus avoiding having to face too high for inking the plate and marger (placing the sheet of paper). Workers filed ink that was applied on the print form with two leather balls stuffed with horsehair and fitted with wooden handles. According to tradition, the bullets were dog skin, giving it a very fine leather and free of pores.

In this environment, Gutenberg gambled that he could do a copy of the Bible in less than half the time than it took to copyist monks. The Gutenberg Bible was not just the first book printed, but also was the most perfect. The new media came at a time of rapid change and faster communications and were the answer to the increased demand for information and entertainment.

They had to make several models of identical letters for them to coincide with each other. In total, more than 150 types imitating the writing of a manuscript. One by one the letters were attached in an ingenious stand, much faster than the woodcut and considerably more resistant to wear.

The machines consist mainly of small metal blocks carved with letters, symbols, and also spacebar organized into plates. This plate (matrix) with all necessary implements for forming characters would be taken to a machine called the press, which would put pressure on the matrix against several sheets of paper thus generating a sequence of pages that would be stored for use.

From a traditional composition, a blank is a kind of mold, it is cast from which lead is handled, so it has a composition of an entire page in a single block, which can be bent to fit a cylinder. The reciprocating motion of heavy form is replaced by a rotary motion (hence the name). Continuous, smooth and fast print speed is performed on a paper roll (cut in output release). All newspaper printers adopted the rotary.

This enables productivity benefits, producing fewer books to save costs. In addition to the direct benefits, digital printing opens up a new world; it is possible to send orders by email, online printing, copying texts in seconds, making quick communications and use universal formats like PDF.
