As society has always operated, cultures are considered very fundamental especially in dictating the way of life for most people; nonetheless, some have to be done with as they have been outdated over the years. Female genital mutilation is an example of the cultural practices that seemed normal in the past as it was a rite of passage among girl transitioning to women, but things have changed now thus the need for womens health initiatives to prevent FGM.

As much as this may have been considered normal over the past decades, the way of life has changed and as a result, the significance of these traditions has faded away. Moreover, scientific studies have shown that this practice come with various health complications that puts their lives at risk. Due to civilization, women also have lost the need to prove themselves to society by performing some of these feminine acts of cruel bravery.

The most infuriating part of this practice is the fact that innocent young girls are the victims of this madness and are forced to undergo this initiation either willing or not. It is for this reason that something drastic must be done as some sections of society somehow condone this practice as it has been seen that parents of these girls are responsible for forcing their kids to take the cut.

During its invention, this was meant to be a practice that signified the maturity of girls as they were introduced to womanhood, and for this, they saw the need to make the cut as a way of reducing their sexual pleasure as a means to reduce infidelity cases. Usually, the procedure is done by incising the clitoris which is among the most sensitive spots in the reproductive system of women.

Considering the fact that the procedure is medically sensitive, it is only sane if its performed by a trained professional in that field so as to avoid risking the life of the person undergoing it. However, this is never the case as most girls are taken to unqualified doctors who are tasked with this responsibility and can risk incurring fatal damages to the girl or even cause their death.

Some of the damages that these girls incur are such as, infections, barrenness, lifelong severe pains which makes it difficult to give birth and sometimes even death. In addition to this, girls who undergo the cut are denied the pleasure of enjoying sex as they should which goes a long way in affecting the social lives.

In terms of gender comparison, the male gender tends to benefits from this practice; however, the same cannot be said for females as this risks their lives and therefore it infringes on their rights. As a means to stop this madness, heavy punishments should be placed on parents who allow their girls to undergo the cut, and more so the people who are responsible in performing these procedures.

The society is more civilized now and people need to play their distinctive roles in ensuring that this inhuman act is eliminated and should not be used as an excuse to infringe on the rights of young innocent girls. At this day and age, people have the right not to be controlled and therefore, cutting of their body part should not be used as an excuse to maintaining moral order.
