Catholic Fundamentalism Influence On Believers

By Beryl Dalton

When a catholic practice contradicts with the teachings, there is expected to have some form of objection. A good example can be obtained when the Catholic sited that man did not originate from a single set of parents and that the story about Eve and Adam was just a form of myth. Some of Catholics approved some contradictory practices such as remarriages, men to men relationship, use of artificial methods of conception and so on. It resulted in a form of conflict as some groups insisted that the practice was against the church teachings. People are now opting for Catholic fundamentalism for help.

The term fundamentalism has been in practice and has been used with other definitions. It is based on the false dichotomy that is in between love and truth. It is associated with an inflexible literalism that destroys writings from context passage in the Holy Scriptures, the overall scriptures and the living customs and values of church.

At another perspective it may also refer to those people who would quote conciliar documents, papal encyclicals and catechism in form of literal sense as a way to justify the credibility of major church practices and teachings, now this become another different issue.

Holy Scriptures are written a symbolic language and offered in various forms. Although it contains truth, and also the primary source of theology, it is not the core book for accurate theological definitions. Therefore church defines the change that occurs or takes place through the words of consecration, namely, the substances that are used for bread and wine are converted into blood and body, divinity and soul of Christ, this term was intended to be understood literally. There are contradictions with the meaning of transubstantiation for just teaching that Christ is present as a sign is an error.

Through its teaching in the offices, church is still pressing to extensive lengths to emphasize it morals, as well as the teaching of its doctrine with larger precision. The language used for its pronouncement is carefully selected to avoid the loss of meaning. The main reason behind this is because the primary aim of church is to have the demand of their teachings to be accepted and understood. A good illustration of this is when the Pope went on to clarify the assumption of Mary the virgin, he insisted that the end of Mary mortal life was presumed into the heavenly body.

Using of political terminologies has also been a primary agenda concerning religion, since it has been argued that these terms degrade the image of the church. This originated from a teacher who taught at New Orleans during an adult theological lecture. The conference referred to Christians leaving the region of North Shore by calling them as ultraconservatives. This statement caught the pope attention and strongly condemned using of these words in relation to church.

The major problem of applying politically to the church is that it tarnishes the concept of truth and hence leads to rejection of a person can understand the objective right. Everything turns out to be personal, subjective opinion; this is because if one comes out with his version of truth and the church hold its version the result will not be appealing. The use of political words also leads to a church teachings being dissent from the moral rights.

Churches should be allowed to be led by the Pope himself by concentrating on his pronouncement and doctrines. This does not depend on his ways of teaching authority; He is a leader influenced by a particular divine from the above.
