We All Need College Essay Assistance

By Olivia Cross

The majority of people, from all over the world; from as far afield as London, UK or Stamford CT (Connecticut), want to go to college for a degree. However many students are not expecting the work to be as difficult. Moreover many people need college essay assistance; from older students, professionals or online essay writing site.

This final option is best avoided as purchasing essays online is plagiarism, or theft of intellectual property. At best, plagiarism will get your essay returned, with a huge F scrawled across the front. At worst, exclusion from college or even prosecution. Plagiarism is not however just buying an essay online, it includes copying and pasting ideas without crediting the original author, or presenting someone else's ideas as your own.

Don't worry, you can use the other scholar's ideas and quote websites and television documentaries. If using someone's theories or interpretations it is essential to reference them. Referencing is difficult and all students hate it, but it is key to being able to prove your quoted information. There are various ways of referencing such ideas. You can use direct quotations ("Nero killed his mother"), or through paraphrasing (It is said Nero killed his mother). Following either of these a reference needs to be inserted, either in the text or as a footnote or endnote (author date: page). This can be a real pain in the butt but people need to know where you got your information.

So we have now discussed the problem of referencing, the most important aspect of a college essay is the research. This can be difficult and complex because it is important to read a lot to write an essay. If one source gives a referenced fact you can check their original source which will give more information about a topic, and means you can expand on an idea, or reinterpret the original source. If you don't agree with their ideas this can form the central argument of the essay.

If you disagree with one author's arguments over another, you must explain why, using evidence to prove why you disagree, or why their argument has been disproved. Even if you feel passionate about something avoid generalisations (all women are terrible drivers)unless there is extensive evidence to prove it. And remember you must reference it as well.

Although making your arguments is essential for an A* essay, it is essential that the essay answers the question being asked, not the question that you want to answer. It may seem obvious but it is very easy to get distracted by research that interests you, but is not actually what is needed.

Once the essay is completed; with a beautiful introduction, well argued evidence and a conclusion. Every quote and idea has been referenced to the original writer so now you must produce a bibliography. This is a list of books, websites and articles referenced in the essay. NOT everything read for the essay. Some stuff you read will not be relevant to the final essay. Check school style guides needed for the bibliography and referencing.

Before handing your college essay in, on time, it is most important to proofread the text. It is vital that you leave enough time to do this as a mis-spelled, or badly edited essay will obviously affect the mark you receive. Good luck!
