Careers After Horse Massage School

By Enid Hinton

Choosing a career is a big step for anyone. Many people love to work with animals in one capacity or another. There are so many different jobs to chose from, ranging from veterinarian to farrier, groom to race rider. One of the fastest growing fields is in holistic medicine for animals. Many owners now know that their horses can benefit from a range of preventative care options, just as they themselves can.

One thing all the riders have in common is a love and concern for their animals. Because of the increased demand for good riding horses there is also a demand for those who have attended horse massage school. Many people simply do not realize that their animals can also enjoy and benefit from the work of a good masseur. This is especially true of horses that compete in physically demanding activities such as three day events and polo.

Horses are very intelligent creatures who have a long history of serving their human masters. Equines of every shape and size can give hours of pleasure to their owners and riders. They can also be trained to compete in a number of disciplines, from jumping to dressage and even jousting. However, many of these activities can be very demanding and sadly to say, injuries are quite common.

When an animal has been involved in an accident or fall it is easier for the rider to be on the look out for a problem. However, in cases were the horse was not observed in difficulties the owners often have no idea that an injury even occurred. In some cases the animal may just be stiff and resistant to certain movements. This can sometimes be treated by a week off and some turn out in the field.

It is very important for every student to spend as much time as possible observing horses. This will train their eye to know how a horse should move and when to spot signs of a problem. Each animal is an individual and will have its own unique way of going. Good owners and trainers will immediately know if something is even slightly wrong with one of their charges just by watching them walk out.

Understanding the psychology and social functioning of the animals is also crucial. Horses are herd animals that live in family groups. This is for protection as in the wild they are prey to animals such as wolves and mountain lions.

If the animal has not been involved in an accident it can be much harder to know what is wrong. This can be the perfect time to see if the equine masseur can detect the site of the problem. In addition most horses are like people and love to have the benefits of a massage. It really does seem to relax them and leave them feeling very content.

Most horse massage sessions take about thirty minuets. This will allow the therapist to go over the animal from head to toe. If they find any problems they can focus in. Otherwise they will provide a wonderfully relaxing experience to any equine.
