Catholic Fundamentalism Beliefs And Its Origin

By Enid Hinton

The catholic church has indeed been one of the biggest sources of power and influence all over the world even up until today. For many years the church has been practicing catholic fundamentalism until recently since the election of Pope Francis and the new teachings that he has been introducing to the public. Here is a short background on the fundamentals of the original catholic belief.

Now the one who made the very basic catholic fundamentalist beliefs was none other than the pope of the middle ages who was known as Pope Innocent III. He was the pope during the time of the golden age of the church because it was in his reign that the crusades won and the building of cathedrals began. It was also during this time that the church reached its peak of followers which is why this period is called the golden age.

Now fundamentalists would follow all the teachings and the doctrines that were established during this specific time. They believe that it is the time wherein the church already perfectly interpreted the scriptures. With this, they do not want to change anything that was started ever since that very period of time.

Now fundamentalists have a belief that everything that can be found in the Bible is literally and verbally stated by God Himself. It is for this reason that they tend to take the Scriptures very literally. If something is not found in the Scriptures, then it is automatically against the teachings of God and should not be followed.

It is actually because of this that most conservatives actually rejected the scientific discoveries that the scientists of that time showed to the world. They believe that knowledge is given by God himself and not to be randomly discovered by human beings on earth. It is for this reason that they did not acknowledge such brains such as Newton or Galileo for that matter.

In fact, they also shun such other secular social issues such as women rights, homosexuality, and divorce among others. They believe that these issues should not even be allowed to exist at all. They believe that these acts are against the Bible and that those who engage in these issues are not obeying God.

Another thing that they believe in is that in order to be saved, one has to first undergo an emotional repentance. If there is no emotional outbreak during repentance, then that person has not been saved yet. They believe that being born again means being touched by the spirit of God and is supposed to be a very emotional and spiritual process.

Now ever since the golden age of catholicism, the church has been following all of these beliefs for so many years until the new Pope had been introducing a bunch of new ideas that would fit this time period. Of course there is still a lot of resistance from the fundamentalists that still do not want any change. Their belief is that if something is written in the scriptures, then it should be followed.
